LANSING, Mich. (June 30, 2021) — Sen. Rosemary Bayer (D-Beverly Hills), the minority vice chair of the Senate Appropriations K-12 and Education Subcommittee, has issued the following statement regarding the K-12 education budget passed by the Michigan Senate today:
“The budget we passed today for our schools, educators, and students is the culmination of a lot of hard work on both sides of the aisle, and something I am truly proud of. This degree of funding that closes the gap between the state’s wealthiest and poorest districts — an issue that has persisted since Proposal A — is long overdue. I’m eager about what these funds will mean to our schools and children, but we must also be resolute in our ambitions: Today is merely a first step. We owe it to students and educators across the state to continue to do right by them well into the future by always ensuring they have the tools, resources, and funding they need to succeed.”
