Sen. Bayer Voices Support for Gov. Whitmer’s 2022 Policy Priorities

BEVERLY HILLS, Mich. (Jan. 26, 2022) — Sen. Rosemary Bayer (D-Beverly Hills) issued the following statement on Gov. Whitmer’s fourth State of the State address, in which she spoke about her policy priorities for 2022, including investing in education and making health care services, including mental health support and services, more accessible:

“The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has created tremendous challenges for teachers, staff and students, who have all had to adapt and be flexible in a landscape that has significantly changed the way our state has had to view how we teach the next generation of Michiganders. Considering this, I was pleased to hear about Governor Whitmer’s continued dedication to investing in our schools to ensure that administrators and educators have the resources they need to provide a quality education to students.

“More than making sure students are paying attention in class, it is critical that mental health supports are easily accessible and readily available. Students are dealing with heightened levels of anxiety about their personal safety and feeling the pressure to succeed in school. Meeting them where they are and acknowledging the need for mental health care services will serve to benefit our state as we continue to work through this pandemic. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Legislature on sound, long-term policy changes so that we can provide these resources in an equitable and affordable way.”
