Great to hear about whatβs working in our community from our cityβs leaders at this yearβs Grand Rapids Chamber policy breakfast β including programs like GRPD and Network180βs crisis co-response.
This program aims to respond to people experiencing a mental health crisis with trained mental health professionals instead of just police officers β and it is keeping people out of jail when support is what they most need. ... See MoreSee Less

High time to deal with mental illness in a sensible and sympathetic way. It's a program that works.
Thank you for your work to allow transgender males to participate in female sports, Winnie! ... And thank you for your work to allow foreign nations to place tariffs on American products while America is not allowed to place tariffs on foreign products! ... And thank you for your work to allow immigrants from gangs and other terrorist organizations into America! ... And thank you for your work "Giving" $350 Billion in hard-earned American taxdollars to the nation of Ukraine rather than providing a $100 Billion in a "Secured Loan" to Ukraine the way European nations did. And thank you for abandoning your work to use electric vehicles to help reduce climate change, and instead devoting your work to improve climate change by burning Tesla vehicles! And thank you for your work using American taxdollars to pay for sex-change operations for the people of Guatamala! All of those things make defeting Democrats very easy!
It's an honor to end this year's #SunshineWeek as the 2025 Michigan Press Association Peter Pettalia Memorial Sunshine Award winner! β

We know that the unprecedented actions of the Trump administration are being felt deeply right here in Grand Rapids. There's a reason why people are feeling confused, scared, or even hopeless β but we're not giving up, and we're not backing down.
On Saturday, Attorney General Dana Nessel and I are hosting a town hall here in Grand Rapids where we'll discuss the steps we've taken to safeguard Michigan from the Trump administration's unlawful actions.

Thank you Winnie. So appreciative of your strong leadership
Thank you for hosting this event for us. I appreciated the opportunity to share my partner's story about NIH!
So, why are people feeling “confused, scared, or hopeless”? For the first time in 4 years, I see and hear people are feeling “ hopeful, a clear direction for America, πΊπΈ and confident our Constitutional Republic will be preserved. Can you stop the fear mongering? The Democratic predecessors talked about waste and fraud. They even reduced the size of government during their term(s). The Trump Administration will not cut Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid benefits. President Trump himself has said it (over and over and over again). Elon Musk didn’t say that, either. The press is lying again. Here is Musk’s direct quote: “The waste and fraud in entitlement spending — which is most of the federal spending is entitlements — so, that’s, like, the big one to eliminate. That’s the, sort of half-trillion, maybe $6-700 billion a year.” And he’s exactly right. FACT: The U.S. Government Accountability Office estimates taxpayers lose as much as $521 billion annually to fraud — and most of that is within entitlement programs, such as Medicare and Medicaid. FACT: Over the past two decades, the federal government has made an estimated $2.7 trillion in “improper payments” — the majority of which come in the form of “payments to deceased individuals or those who no longer [are] eligible for government programs.” FACT: The Social Security Administration made an estimated $72 billion in improper payments between 2015 and 2022. FACT: The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services estimated it made $140+ billion in improper payments in 2024 alone. What kind of a person doesn’t support eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse in government spending that ultimately costs taxpayers more?
