Camilleri Named Majority Chair of Senate Pre-K-12 Appropriations, Vice Chair of Labor Committee
LANSING, Mich. (Jan. 12, 2022) — Sen. Darrin Camilleri (D-Trenton) has issued the following statement after being sworn into office to serve in the 102nd Michigan Legislature and appointed Chair of the Pre K-12 Appropriations Subcommittee as well as Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Labor:
“It’s an honor to begin my term serving as State Senator for District 4 and to have the opportunity to serve as Chair of the Senate Pre-K-12 budget and as Vice Chair of the new Senate Labor Committee,” said Sen. Camilleri. “For too long, our students, educators, and workers have been sidelined and deprioritized, but we have the opportunity to end that now and create transformational change together. As a former teacher and the son and grandson of union auto workers, this work is personal for me and I’m ready to get started.”
Before being elected to the Senate, Camilleri served in the State House as Minority Vice Chair of the House Education Committee, emerging as a statewide voice on improving our public schools and a champion for workers’ rights.
“As your next State Senator, I will always put the needs of Downriver and Western Wayne County first when making big decisions about Michigan’s future. I look forward to representing you in this new capacity over the next several years.”
In addition to his roles as Chair and Vice Chair, Senator Camilleri will also be serving on the following committees: Education; Transportation; Elections and Ethics; Energy and Environment; Appropriations; and the Appropriations Subcommittees on Transportation, DHHS, and Labor and Economic Opportunity/MEDC.
