As Chair of the Senate Pre-K-12 Appropriations Subcommittee, Sen. Camilleri will lead budget work on these and other education proposals

LANSING, Mich. (Feb. 8, 2023) — Sen. Darrin Camilleri (D-Trenton) issued the following statement on Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s executive budget recommendation this morning and the highlights for education investment, including funding for Great Start Readiness Program expansion and record levels of per-pupil funding:

“As a former teacher and the Chair of the Pre-K-12 Senate budget this year, I’m excited about the prospect of expanding Pre-K, record increases in per-pupil funding, and increased pay and benefits for our state’s teachers. There are many conversations still to be had about how exactly to get this done, but I’m looking forward to working with our new majority in the legislature and Gov. Whitmer to deliver for our students, teachers, and schools.”
