Hello neighbor,

It is hard to believe that it has already been three months since we first gaveled in and began this year’s legislative session. In that time, we have passed a record amount of legislation and put working families first every step of the way. As we enter April, the legislature has stood at ease for these past couple weeks. My team and I have taken some time to recharge, reflect on what we’ve accomplished, and ready ourselves to get back to work on behalf of our Downriver and Western Wayne communities. I’m excited to continue delivering on the promises that we’ve made to our state.

Right before we left for break, we were able to pass common sense gun legislation that will keep firearms away from those who wish to inflict harm on others. The package we passed in the Senate includes expanding background checks, enacting safe storage laws, and instituting extreme risk protection orders. After the recent tragedies at MSU and Nashville it was imperative that we work quickly to enact common sense changes that will save lives and decrease gun violence in our communities. I was proud to co-sponsor this legislation and was pleased to see it pass a vote on the Senate floor. We have a lot more work to do, but I believe this is a great first step.

Hearing from my constituents about the problems they’re facing and working to find solutions is central to my work as a legislator. I have some events coming up that will be great opportunities to share what you would like to see from your state leaders and provide your perspective on the issues we face.

Come visit our district office! We will be hosting a Trenton District Office Open House from 5:30-7:00PM on April 17th at Trenton City Hall. Our district office is up and running at Trenton City Hall and my staff will be there on Mondays and Fridays from 10:00-3:00PM. This will be a great opportunity to check out our new space and meet my team. We hope to see you there!

Additionally, I will be hosting two coffee hours this month. This will be my first coffee hour in the city of Southgate; come stop by, grab a coffee, and talk about ways we can improve your community. I also look forward to meeting my Flat Rock neighbors and discussing ways we can move forward. I hope we can catch you at one of these events!
