Hello neighbor,
I wanted to reach out and share some updates from my team and I as we’re working hard to advocate for you in Lansing.
Just this week, we were able to pass Extreme Risk Protection Order laws that would keep firearms out of those who are a danger to themselves and those around them, as well as legislation that would ensure our kids are provided clean drinking water at childcare facilities.
As Chair of the Senate Education Budget, I’ve been continuing to work on a state education budget that prioritizes our students, teachers, and schools, and I’m looking forward to sharing some exciting developments about that soon.
I’m also continuing to push for legislation which would provide a permanent state fund for grade separation projects, and our grade separation bills received a hearing in the Senate Transportation Committee and will likely be headed for a vote next week. It is so crucial that we continue working to solve our train issues across Downriver and Western Wayne, and I’m hopeful that these bills will do just that.
Finally, I want to thank everyone who came out to our District Open House and our Southgate Coffee Hour this week. It was great to connect with so many of you to discuss the issues that matter most Downriver. As a reminder, our District Office is located in Trenton City Hall and will be staffed Mondays and Fridays from 10:00AM-3:00PM (or by appointment). If you are dealing with an issue or if you need help with a question please feel free to stop by, my team would be more than happy to help you out.
We have two events coming up that will also be great opportunities to make your voice heard and connect with your legislators:
Town Hall with Sen. Camilleri, Rep. Churches, Congresswoman Dingell, and Congressman Thanedar
We’ll hear from leaders at the federal level about what is happening in Washington, and take time to chat about the direction of our state, and we hope to see you there!
WHEN: Sunday, April 23, from 1 – 2 pm
WHERE: Downriver Council for the Arts, 81 Chestnut St, Wyandotte, MI 48192
Coffee Hour with Sen. Camilleri
This will be my first legislative event in Flat Rock and I hope that you can come out and chat with me about what you would like to see from your State Senator.
WHEN: Friday, April 28, from 10 – 11 am
WHERE: Flat Rock Public Library, 25200 Gibraltar Rd, Flat Rock, MI 48134
As always, please reach out to my office if you need assistance, or if you have any questions or concerns. I’m looking forward to sharing more updates as we continue to work in Lansing soon, have a great weekend!
In solidarity,
Darrin Camilleri
State Senator
