Hello neighbor,

I hope that you and your family are doing well as we’ve officially entered summer. This is the time to take that vacation, spend time with friends and loved ones, and enjoy the great array of summertime activities Michigan has to offer. We’re still hard at work up in Lansing, and my team and I have been working overtime to make sure we deliver a historic education budget that provides the most resources for students, teachers, and schools that we’ve ever seen as well as a state budget that benefits all Michiganders.

As we prepare to make the final votes on next year’s state budget, I’m excited to announce some appropriations that we were able to secure for our communities coming up soon. I encourage you to stay engaged as we get ready to finalize the budget and send it to Governor Whitmer for her approval.

Our legislation to fix one of Downriver’s most serious transportation issues and build grade separations at train crossings across our state passed the House last week and is now heading to the Governor’s desk to be signed into law. I’m thrilled that my colleagues acknowledged the need for a permanent grade separation fund here in Michigan, and that relief is coming to some of our most problematic rail crossings here in our state.

With summer beginning, my team and I are excited to have more time to spend in Downriver and Western Wayne. Being available to my constituents is extremely important to me, and I wanted to make you aware of our summer District Office hours starting after July 4th:

  • Mondays from 10 am –3 pm
  • Wednesdays from 10 am – 3 pm
  • Fridays from 10 am –3 pm

If these times do not work for your schedule, we are also available to meet by appointment, and my office is available for your needs at (517) 373-7918. We have some summer district events in the works as well, and I look forward to sharing more details about these soon.

To finish up the month of June, my team and I are also hosting two in-district events that you won’t want to miss:

Medicaid Redetermination Resource Day
WHEN: Monday, June 26 from 12 – 2 pm
WHERE: Trenton City Hall, 2800 3rd St, Trenton, MI 48183

With the COVID-19 pandemic coming to an end, the state will once again be redetermining Medicaid eligibility. My team and I want to make sure that everyone has access to the healthcare they need, and my staff will be available to answer all of your questions about your redetermination and inform you of the resources that are available.

Brownstown Coffee Hour
WHEN: Friday, June 30 from 9:30 – 10:30 am
WHERE: Arnold’s Diner, 18412 Telegraph Rd, Brownstown Charter Twp, MI 48174

I’ll will be hosting a coffee hour event where we can have an open dialogue about the issues in our community as well as what you would like to see from your State Senator.

We hope to see you at one of these events next week! As always, staying available and transparent for my neighbors across District 4 is my highest priority, and if my office or I can be of any assistance please do not hesitate to reach out.

In Solidarity,

Darrin Camilleri
State Senator
District 4
