Hello neighbor,

I hope you and your family are continuing to have a great summer as we enter August. We have a lot of exciting updates to share, so I’ll jump right into what’s been happening across Michigan and District 4 over the last two weeks:

Two weeks ago, I joined my legislative colleagues, Governor Whitmer and public education leaders in Traverse City as the Fiscal Year 2024 education budget was officially signed into law.

Our work to craft a budget that puts students and educators first started back in January, and it was incredibly gratifying to finally see this legislation get across the finish line. Free meals for students, pre-K access for more families, student debt relief for our teachers, and so much more was included in this budget. I want to sincerely thank everyone who helped shape this historic investment in our public education infrastructure, and I’m excited to see how schools use these new resources to help kids across our state.

We also kicked off our district funding announcements in the beginning of July when we visited our neighbors in Wayne to reveal $4.9 million for lead line replacement, and we continued sharing our budget wins last week with Rep. Churches in Gibraltar. Thanks to her hard work and leadership, we were able to share that $400,000 was included in the final budget for additional lead line replacements there. It was great to share this moment with Mayor Denison, the Gibraltar City Council and all of our neighbors in attendance. Access to clean and safe drinking water is something that every Michigan resident should have access to, and I will continue working towards this commitment for every constituent across Downriver and Western Wayne.

Finally, I was excited to be amongst local and state leaders on Monday, July, 31 where Governor Whitmer signed the $81.7 billion state budget right here in Wyandotte. I couldn’t think of a better place to commemorate this occasion than Downriver, where working families know the value of investing in our infrastructure and programs that help our neighbors put their best foot forward.

This budget puts everyday Michiganders first by giving back to our communities and continuing our work to grow our economy. We’ll be continuing to travel across our communities to announce exciting appropriations we were able to secure for our Western Wayne and Downriver communities. Make sure to keep an eye on my social media and future E-Newsletters as we share details on these announcements.

As always, my team and I are here to assist you with navigating our state departments or with any questions or concerns you may have. Feel free to send an email via this form or give us call at (517) 373-7918.

In Solidarity,

Darrin Camilleri
