DETROIT, Mich. (September 15, 023) — In response to UAW auto workers declaring a strike ahead of their contract with GM, Ford Motor Company and Stellantis expiring last night at midnight, State Senator Darrin Camilleri (D-Trenton) issued the following statement:
“With an unprecedented global pandemic and an auto shortage, auto workers have done far more than they signed up for over the past few years, all while the Big Three made record profits,” said Camilleri. “I stand with our UAW brothers and sisters as they fight for the pay and benefits they need and deserve, and I’m behind them 100% as they work toward a fair contract.”
Camilleri is the son and grandson of union auto workers and the district he represents has one of the highest concentrations of union labor in the state. He publicly stood with workers during the last strike in 2019 and sponsored the legislation that repealed Michigan’s so-called “Right-to-Work” law earlier this year.
