Hello Neighbor,

As we enter the New Year and start our 2024 legislative session, I wanted to share some updates on what we’ll be prioritizing in the Legislature and provide details on upcoming community events we’ll be hosting. I look forward to another productive year and passing more legislation that helps move our state forward, and as always, I appreciate you staying engaged with our work.

Before we jump into our recap, I also want to thank you for your support and engagement in our work both at home and in Lansing. I’m incredibly honored to serve our seventeen communities, from Wayne to Wyandotte, and I look forward to working on what’s next in 2024.

Legislative Updates

My team and I got back to the Capitol this week as we kicked off our 2024 legislative session. This year, I’m going to continue working hard to pass several bills that I introduced in 2023. Some of my top priorities include legislation to establish a Prescription Drug Affordability Board, a bill to provide for universal FAFSA completion with key opt-outs and a package of bills that would establish a Michigan Voting Rights Act in order to codify expanded voting protections for Michiganders.

In addition, as the Chair of the Pre-K-12 Appropriations Subcommittee, I’m looking forward to starting another budget cycle creating an education budget that invests in our students and educators. Finally, I’ll be working with my colleagues during the budget process to continue our investments in our Downriver and Western Wayne communities and help fund crucial projects for these communities.

There will be many challenges and hurdles to get these items across the finish line, but I will be sure to keep you updated via our E-Newsletters, social media and other platforms along the way. I encourage you to follow my Facebook here, as I share frequent updates on our work both in the district and in Lansing.

Community Events

Our first coffee of the year will be at the Wayne McDonald’s on January 19 from 10-11 a.m. This is going to be a great opportunity to connect with our neighbors and discuss the priorities of the City of Wayne in 2024 and beyond. We hope to see you there!

WHEN: Friday, January 19, 10-11 a.m.
WHERE: McDonald’s, 35111 Michigan Ave W, Wayne, MI 48184

We have additional coffee hours, town halls, and other community events in the works, and I look forward to sharing more details in our next E-Newsletter. If there is an event in your community that you would like for myself or my team to attend, I encourage you to share it with our office. We’re always looking to congratulate the opening of new businesses and celebrate our amazing neighbors across Downriver and Western Wayne.

I’m excited for the opportunities that await us this year, and I look forward to continuing our collaboration with our constituents and local leaders. If you have any questions or comments on legislation, community issues or any matter that is important to you please feel free to reach out to my office here
