As Chair of the school aid budget committee in the Michigan Senate, I’m committed to providing public schools with the funding and resources they need. I introduced Senate Bills 246 and 247 to keep our neighbors safe from an unmitigated flow of dangerous, imported waste.
- Moratorium on new or expanded hazardous waste sites
- Increased fees to fund emergency response, landfill redevelopment and local government
- New siting requirements to keep disposal sites away from homes, schools and population centers
- Cap on overall hazardous waste disposal
Prompted by attempts to bring hazardous and radioactive material into Southeast Michigan, these reforms ensure stronger safeguards for communities in the Great Lakes State.
