ROMULUS, Mich. (Jan. 6, 2026) — On Tuesday morning, authorities were alerted that an individual had attempted to enter Romulus Middle School while in possession of a firearm. As the school entered lockdown, police arrived at the scene and were successful in apprehending the suspect. Senator Darrin Camilleri (D-Trenton) offered the following statement:
“I’ve been in touch with local leaders, including School Board President Porsche Laster and Mayor Robert McCraight, and they briefed me on the situation. I’m extremely grateful that our school staff and first responders were able to ensure that all students and staff remained safe during this frightening moment. Every safety system worked today, and we avoided any potential tragedy. I’ll continue to monitor this situation as the investigation continues, and my office will be available to help as needed.”
