Lansing, Mich. (March 27, 2023) — In order to have conversations with teachers, parents, and school leaders from all different backgrounds on what investments would best support their students and schools in a Pre-K-12 Budget, Senator Darrin Camilleri (D-Trenton), the Senate Pre-K-12 Budget Chair, announced a school tour with other Senators across the state, including Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks (D-Grand Rapids).

“We need to remember why we’re doing this work and who we’re creating this budget for,” said Sen. Camilleri, a former teacher. “By visiting schools across our state, we can get a better sense of the unique educational needs of each community as we work to create what will hopefully be the most transformative school budget Michigan has ever seen with our students and teachers at the center.”

Camilleri began his tour this morning by visiting several schools in Dearborn with State Senator Sylvia Santana (D-Detroit) and stops will include Grand Rapids with Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks, Saginaw with Senator Kristen McDonald Rivet (D-Bay City), and Macomb County with Senator Veronica Klinefelt (D-Eastpointe), among others.
