LANSING, Mich. (July 3, 2026) — As Michiganders continue to bear the brunt of reckless decisions coming out of Washington and the sky-high cost of living, Senate Democrats worked across the aisle to pass the bipartisan 2027 state budget earlier this morning — delivering economic relief and stability when it’s needed most. In response, Sen. Mary Cavanagh (D-Redford Twp.), chair of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee for the Michigan Dept. of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), has released the following statement:
“The balanced budget we passed today makes good on our promise to deliver real, meaningful relief for families, small businesses, and local communities in District 6. From targeted affordable housing investments to support for students and workers to resources for small business development — this budget lowers everyday costs, protects Michiganders from the effects of harmful federal actions, protects access to healthcare, and builds a more equitable economy that works for everyone. I’m honored to deliver my fourth balanced budget that continues to uphold my commitment to people first and to deliver important resources back to my communities.”
Key investments for District 6 include:
-
Funding for the Choose Healthy Life Program — helping to promote health and wellness in partnership with local faith organizations;
