LANSING – Sen. Stephanie Chang (D-Detroit) has issued the following statement regarding United States Steel Corporation’s decision to temporarily lay off up to 200 workers at their Great Lakes Facility in Ecorse.
“I am saddened by today’s announcement from the United States Steel Corporation. It is unfortunate these hardworking men and women are paying the price for our nation’s costly trade wars and tariff games. I encourage folks to connect with us to learn more about community resources in the area that can help them continue to put food on the table and keep a roof over their heads during such a difficult time.
“As legislators work toward a state budget agreement in Lansing, it is my hope that consideration is given to funding the necessary programs and resources to help these working families land on their feet while undeniably preparing for the worst.”
