DETROIT (Jan. 27, 2021) — Sen. Stephanie Chang (D–Detroit) has issued the following statement on Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s State of the State address, during which she urged legislators to pass the Michigan COVID Recovery Plan:
“For almost a year now, our frontline workers in Detroit and across our state have all faced serious job safety concerns, whether they work in a hospital, a restaurant, or any other customer-oriented industry. As we continue the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine, worker safety — and ensuring access to affordable childcare for those families who need it and who have child care providers returning to the workforce — must be considered, and Governor Whitmer understands these challenges. I look forward to working with my colleagues to pass the Michigan COVID Recovery Plan because we cannot have a healthy economy without a healthy workforce.
“I am also looking forward to working with the Governor on her efforts to fund clean water infrastructure and advance water affordability efforts in our state. We should build on the momentum from the legislature passing a water shutoff moratorium in December to support our vulnerable community members, and ensure that every Michigander has access to clean, affordable water.”
