Dear Friends and Neighbors,
As we dive into the month of December, I want to bring you another edition of our e-newsletter highlighting the outstanding work happening in District 27 and Lansing. Just last week, Governor Whitmer signed a historic clean energy bill package that will protect Michigan’s air and water, safeguard the well-being of Michiganders across the state and create thousands of good-paying jobs. All great news for our district and the rest of Michigan.
As always if you, or someone you know, want to provide any feedback about what’s happening in Lansing or need assistance of any sort, please feel free to reach out to my office at 517-373-0142 (Lansing office), 810-233-9788 (District office), or SenJCherry@senate.michigan.gov with questions or concerns.
Working for you,
John Cherry
State Senator

Community Updates
Final Sale of Buick City
On November 30, Ashley Capital and RACER Trust announced the completion of the sale of the second phase of development on the former General Motors property known within the community as Buick City. I am incredibly proud to have played a role in getting this project off the ground, and I cannot wait to see how it positively impacts communities!

Donating Chromebooks to The Disability Network
It’s my pleasure to announce that AT&T is donating 100 Chromebooks to the Disability Network in Flint! This investment made in our community will not only help with the overall vision that the Disability Network has for fostering a more inclusive environment but also empower accessibility and education for all. I thank Gavin Goetz and AT&T for their commitment to inclusivity and for allowing me to share in this moment.
World AIDS Day
World AIDS Day is observed on December 1 each year, and on this day, we acknowledge and admire those whose lives have been affected by HIV. This past Friday, I had the privilege of taking part in a commemoration hosted by Wellness AIDS Services, remembering those in our community who have lost their lives to HIV. We can stand strong against the stigma that has taken the lives of so many people and inspire change! I thank Wellness AIDS Services for educating and strengthening our community.
Legislative Updates
Senate Bill 169 Signed into Law
I was proud to see Governor Whitmer signed into law a bill I sponsored (Senate Bill 169) on November 30. This legislation will require public employers to provide collective bargaining representatives with their employees’ employment and contact information.
In the past, some unions have struggled to contact employees they represent, because new hire information was not transmitted. The intent behind Senate Bill 169 is to ensure employees receive the representation they are entitled to. Thanks to Gov. Whitmer signing it into law, represented Michigan workers will now have better access to services from their union.

Drug Immunity Repeal Signed into Law
It was amazing hosting Governor Whitmer in Flint on Thursday as she officially signed into law the Drug Immunity Repeal — a piece of legislation I proudly co-sponsored. What makes this even more special is my mother championed this legislation in the House back in 2018. I am pleased to know her efforts helped make this possible.
This bipartisan legislation will ensure drug maker accountability and prioritize public health. Protecting Michiganders and their families is a top priority of myself and my colleagues. It is important that those impacted can seek justice and recoup damages if a prescription drug has led to injury, or in some unfortunate cases, death.
