“I have been fortunate to be recognized by Ducks Unlimited more than once, and each and every time, it always feels rewarding and humbling,” said Sen. Cherry. “Protecting our natural resources and ensuring we find ways to continue our sporting traditions as Michiganders is incredibly important to me — it’s our heritage and our way of life. I am appreciative to have played a part in the historic wetland restoration investment during this past budget cycle. Truly, I want to continue to amplify the voices of the conservation community and help Michigan reach its full potential as a leader in wildlife conservation.”

Throughout his tenure as a lawmaker, Sen. Cherry has been instrumental in protecting our state’s natural resources. In the Fiscal Year 2023 state budget, Sen. Cherry helped secure $10 million in funding towards wetland conservation and in the Fiscal Year 2024 budget Sen. Cherry helped secure, for the first time in Michigan history, ongoing general fund support for wetlands restoration. As of now, Ducks Unlimited has already received $4 million of the funding.

Since 1937, Ducks Unlimited has responded to the needs of the environment by promoting habitat conservation through impactful partnerships with agencies, scientific communities and various other entities. Ducks Unlimited is regarded as the world’s largest private waterfowl and wetlands conservation organization. To learn more about the organization and its work, click here.
