LANSING, Mich. (April 5, 2024) — Sen. Erika Geiss (D-Taylor) recognizes the recipients in her community that have been awarded a grant through the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity’s $64 million Community Center Grant Program. This grant program builds on Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s ‘Make it in Michigan’ strategy to win projects, invest in people and revitalize places.

“As the State Senator representing Senate District 1, I am thrilled for our community with the announcement of four grant recipients, thanks to the highly anticipated $64 million Community Center Grant Program,” said Sen. Geiss. “These grants will help fund and support community initiatives and businesses making a difference in our district. I look forward to the positive impacts this program will have on the community.”

  • Freedom House Detroit: $1,000,000  
  • Heritage Works: $400,000  
  • Michigan Interfaith Power & Light: $998,638  
  • The Detroit Association of Black Organizations, Inc.: $1,000,000
