TAYLOR (Jan. 27, 2021) — Sen. Erika Geiss (D–Taylor) has issued the following statement on Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s third State of the State address that she gave this evening:
“I am excited to get to work with Governor Whitmer and get things done for Downriver and Western Wayne County residents and families. I applaud her for the bold proposals that she announced during her third State of the State address to continue fighting the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and move Michigan forward, and look forward to taking up these opportunities to make a positive impact on people’s lives.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted every aspect of our lives and I am ready to get to work to safely get our students back in the classroom, expand unemployment benefits, and grow jobs and our economy — all while ensuring that should this ever happen again, we are prepared to support and uplift every household.
“Should someone get sick from this devastating virus or any other illness, we can make sure they will not have to choose between paying the bills or missing a paycheck. We can make sure that Michigan’s people have time to care for each other without risking their livelihood. And we can make sure people are healthy — fully healthy — before returning to work or school.
“These issues are not limited to a pandemic response, but are also good, commonsense solutions grounded in economic justice. I hope that the legislature is willing, able, and ready to work with the governor on addressing these issues that impact the lives of every Michigander.”
