Sen. Hertel’s leadership and advocacy helped secure necessary funding to support first responders and keep Michigan communities safe
LANSING, Mich. (July 18, 2023) — Today, Sen. Kevin Hertel (D-St. Clair Shores) joined Colonel Joe Gasper, Director of the Michigan State Police, and state troopers to discuss funding he worked to secure in the Michigan Fiscal Year 2024 Budget to support the State Police and bolster their efforts to build a modern police force, keeping residents and communities safe across the state.
“Our first responders often put their lives in harm’s way to ensure the safety and wellbeing of others,” said Sen. Hertel. “As Chair of the Senate Military, Veterans, State Police Appropriations Subcommittee, I was proud to meet with police officers and other public safety officials during the months-long budget process to ensure we understood and were able to meet their evolving needs. The funding we secured in the 2024 budget will provide first responders with the resources they need to keep our communities safe and secure, supporting our officers and protecting our residents.”
