LANSING, Mich. (October 17, 2023) — Sen. Kevin Hertel (D-St. Clair Shores) has issued the following statement after welcoming the Grosse Pointe North Girls Soccer Team to the Michigan Capitol today in celebration of their accomplished 2023 season:
“It was an honor to host the Grosse Pointe North Girls Soccer Team for a day at the Michigan Capitol and celebrate their record-breaking season. Their dedication, teamwork and unwavering commitment to excellence were key to bringing Grosse Pointe North their first state championship title for girls’ soccer. The success of these incredible athletes reminds us of the limitless potential Michigan students possess and the importance of investing in their bright futures. Congratulations
In June 2023, Grosse Pointe North Varsity Girls Soccer Team claimed the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Division 2 Soccer State Championship title at Michigan State University with a final record of 10-7-7.
Since 1991 — the furthest back published results include team records — no girls soccer team had advanced to an MHSAA final with fewer than ten wins until Grosse Pointe North and Clarkston Everest Collegiate did this year. This season was also the first time the Lady Norsemen captured a state championship in the school’s history.
