ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. (August 6, 2024) — Sen. Kevin Hertel (D-St. Clair Shores) has issued the following statement after joining local leaders at the St. Clair Shores Civic Arena to celebrate Sophie Ancona being named 2024 Miss Hockey:
“I am proud to congratulate St. Clair Shores native Sophie Ancona on being named 2024 Miss Hockey for her outstanding performance in the 2023-2024 season. Despite coming back from an ACL injury, Sophie hit the ice her senior year with tenacity and grit, bringing with her a lifetime’s culmination of hard work, dedication, and love of hockey. A true leader at heart, Sophie’s talent, teamwork, and sportsmanship will undoubtedly serve to inspire a new generation of women hockey players.”
The Michigan Girls High School Hockey League’s (MGHSHL) Miss Hockey award is a prestigious accolade recognizing the top female high school hockey player in Michigan. As the recipient of the 2024 Miss Hockey title, Ancona joins an elite group of players who have not only excelled individually but have also made significant contributions to their teams and the sport as a whole in Michigan.
