LANSING, Mich. (Jan. 22, 2025) — In response to the passage of Senate Resolution 3, which empowers the Senate Majority Leader to prepare legal action compelling the House of Representatives to fulfill its constitutional duty and present the nine remaining bills passed by both chambers during the 102nd Legislature to the governor, Sen. Kevin Hertel (D-St. Clair Shores) issued the following statement:
“The work we do here in the Capitol has a direct impact on the lives of everyday Michiganders. Among the nine bills that House Republicans are unconstitutionally blocking is legislation to address a critical issue facing hundreds of thousands of public employees here in our state. If Speaker Hall continues to sit on these bills, teachers, firefighters, police officers, and other dedicated workers will be unfairly hit with thousands of dollars in increased health insurance costs.
“At a time when too many Michiganders are struggling to make ends meet, legislators should be focused on lowering costs, not scoring political points at their expense.”
