“Data centers are economic engines that help fuel long-term community growth — benefitting everyone from the skilled workers and developers who build them to the families who benefit from the expanded tax revenue flowing to schools, roads, and public safety services. As our world becomes increasingly digitalized, making Michigan a competitive hub for data centers is just good policy.
“I am incredibly honored to be recognized as MEDA’s 2025 Legislative Economic Development Champion for this work. As my colleagues and I continue to find ways to grow our population and economy here in Michigan, I am thankful to have partners such as MEDA who share this vision and are committed to putting in the work to make it a reality.”
By providing tax exemption opportunities for data centers, Senate Bill 237, now Public Act 181 of 2024, is set to usher in a new era of technological growth — driving economic development across Michigan, promoting job creation, and boosting local revenue streams. Building on the monumental Clean Energy Future package the state Legislature championed in 2023, this legislation also includes a number of clean energy provisions that would hold Michigan-based data centers to some of the highest environmental standards in the nation, allowing us to grow the economy in a responsible and sustainable manner.
