Fighting to Protect Lake St. Clair

In the Michigan Senate, I have the honor of representing the entire United States shoreline of Lake St. Clair — from Grosse Pointe to Harsens Island. Here in our lakeshore district, Lake St. Clair binds each and every one of our communities together, serving as the foundation of our economy while providing fresh drinking water and unmatched recreational opportunities. Protecting the lake for current and future generations is a responsibility I take seriously.

That’s why, throughout my time in the Legislature, I worked to secure nearly $100 million to build up our region’s crumbling water infrastructure that poses a threat to the health of Lake St. Clair.

Securing the Future of Selfridge

After the Air Force announced that they planned on decommissioning the A-10 Warthogs currently housed at Selfridge, I knew we had to step up and do everything we could to protect the future of the base. That’s why I worked to secure tens of millions of dollars to upgrade the infrastructure at the Selfridge and position the base for a future fighter mission. Thanks to these investments, Selfridge has been awarded a new refueling mission and a new fighter mission, safeguarding the base’s future — while protecting the over $850 million in annual economic activity Selfridge generates.

Promoting Safe Communities

MACOMB COUNTY JAIL’S NEW MENTAL HEALTH INTAKE

Championed funding for a new central intake and mental health unit at the Macomb County Jail — an investment that will help provide better mental and physical health outcomes for those who come in contact with the criminal justice system. Once complete, the new jail is set to become a national model on how to keep our communities safe, while ensuring the needs of our most vulnerable are met.

NEW FIRE TRUCK FOR MOUNT CLEMENS

Successfully advocated for the funding Mount Clemens needed to purchase a new fire truck to ensure the city’s firefighters have the tools and equipment they need to respond to emergencies.

BUILDING COMMUNITY SPACES FOR ALL TO ENJOY

Mount Clemens is the heart of Macomb County, but for too long, a lack of investments in the city has not allowed it to live up to its fullest potential. In recent budget cycles, our team worked with Rep. Denise Mentzer to secure resources for a:

Housing development project to revitalize the old Victory Inn and provide new housing opportunities.
Riverfront revitalization project that will create vibrant, attractive spaces and help boost economic development, create jobs, and attract new residents to the city.
