LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Jeff Irwin (D–Ann Arbor) today released the following statement after the Michigan Senate voted along party lines to approve House Concurrent Resolution 1 without amendment, striking down Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s Executive Order 2019-02, that would restructure the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) into the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE).
“I have constituents drinking water contaminated with PFAS who are sick and tired of having their health held hostage and feeling like they’ve been forgotten. The actions by my colleagues across the aisle today have only strengthened my resolve to continue the fight for the forgotten little guy, who deserves clean water to drink and air to breathe. Michigan’s families, and our kids, all deserve better.”
