How to Watch the State of the State  

This Wednesday, January 24 at 7 p.m., Governor Whitmer will deliver her sixth State of the State address. Watch live as our Governor updates us on her plans and proposals for 2024. 

 

Coffee and Conversation

If you are a senior citizen and would like free tax help from the AARP, call (734) 482-4410 at EXT 2411. 

Public Open House for Us-23, M-17 Studies in Wash Co 

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) invites the public to attend an open house to learn and give input on the US-23 improvement project and M-17 (Washtenaw Avenue) planning and environmental linkages (PEL) study in Washtenaw County. This is open to any interested residents, commuters, community stakeholders and local businesses. Attendees who require mobility, visual, hearing, written or other assistance for effective participation should contact Orlando Curry at 517-241-7462 or CurryO@Michigan.gov, preferably at least five business days prior to the scheduled meeting. Forms are located on the Title VI webpage.  

WHEN: Thursday, February 1 2024 from 12:00-2:00 p.m. and 4:00-8:00 p.m. 
WHERE: Washtenaw Community College, Morris Lawrence Building, Room 105, 4800 E. Huron River Drive, Ann Arbor, MI 48105 

  • M-17 project information: Through the M-17 PEL study, MDOT and community partners are developing a vision for Washtenaw Avenue through a collaborative process that seeks to improve mobility and quality of life for those who live, work, study, explore and travel within the corridor. The study area encompasses M-17 from the US-23 interchange to Summit Street in Ypsilanti. Visit the virtual open house at washtenawpel.com for more information. 
  • US-23 project information: Through the US-23 improvement study, MDOT will prepare road and bridge design concepts along US-23 from I-94 to M-14. A federally required environmental assessment (EA) is underway to identify operational, environmental and social impacts. Visit the study webpage for more information. 
  • Public input: In addition to the open house, comments and input can also be submitted online through the M-17 comment form, the US-23 mapping tool or by emailing Monica Monsma at MonsmaM@Michigan.gov

Working Families Tax Credit Checks Coming Early in 2024 

Governor Whitmer announced last month that 700,000 households will be receiving an average of $550 via mail beginning on February 13, 2024. Those eligible do not need to submit anything in addition to receive the credit as it will be automatically processed based on your 2022 tax return. If you have recently moved and are concerned your address is not accurate for mailing, you can update your address here. Find out if you qualify for the upcoming tax season here

Michigan Achievement Scholarship

The Michigan Achievement Scholarship application remains open for all high school seniors! This scholarship will provide: 

  • Up to $2,750 if you attend a community college, per year 
  • Up to $5,500 if you attend a public university, per year 
  • Up to $4,000 if you attend a private college or university, per year 

There is no deadline for this scholarship. Students have fifteen months from either their high school graduation or high school equivalency completion to enter college and use the funds they are awarded.
