Budget continues Senate Democrats’ work to lower costs statewide, mitigate federal harm, invest in critical infrastructure

LANSING, Mich. (July 8, 2026) — Last week, Senate Democrats worked across the aisle to pass the 2027 state budget, delivering real relief amid the record-high cost of living and irresponsible federal decisions that are financially squeezing Michigan families. The bipartisan budget makes significant investments in education, housing, small-business support, healthcare and childcare statewide, as well as funding for a number of projects in Senate District 7 and throughout Oakland County.

Specifically, Sen. Jeremy Moss (D-Bloomfield) spearheaded the investment for new public safety infrastructure and equipment in communities throughout the district.

“Our budget reverses the damage being done by the Trump Administration and implements real solutions on behalf of our communities, ensuring they have what they need to thrive. This balanced, bipartisan budget works to increase avenues for our small businesses, provide more affordable housing, and so much more,” said Sen. Moss. “I’m especially proud to work with our local mayors and township supervisors to meet our needs back home and deliver public safety upgrades that will keep our communities safe, including constructing new fire stations throughout our district to replace facilities that are more than 70 years old.”

Key investments in Fiscal Year 2027 budget include funding for:

“Waterford is grateful to our state legislators for securing funding to support the construction of our new Fire Station 2,” said Anthony Bartolotta, Waterford Township Supervisor. “For more than 73 years, the current station has faithfully served our community, but it can no longer adequately support today’s personnel, equipment, and operational demands as the need for emergency services continues to grow. This investment allows us to move forward with a shovel-ready project that will strengthen emergency response capabilities for Waterford residents and the surrounding region for decades to come.”

“Bloomfield Township is very pleased to receive the support from the state as we look to replace Station 3 that is approximately 70 years old and no longer viable given modern fire/EMS needs,” said Mike McCready, Bloomfield Township Supervisor, along with Bloomfield Township Treasurer Michael Schostak. “We appreciate Sen. Moss’ leadership in helping us secure this grant to improve public safety for our residents, businesses, and guests.”

“The City of Auburn Hills is honored to receive this $450,000 grant to support the purchase of a new ambulance for our Fire Department,” said Eugene Hawkins III, Mayor of Auburn Hills. “This funding will help ensure our first responders have the reliable equipment they need to provide timely, high-quality emergency medical services to our residents, businesses, and visitors. We are grateful to Sen. Moss for his support and for being a champion for the Auburn Hills community. The City of Auburn Hills remains committed to public safety, and this grant will allow us to continue to serve our community with excellence.”
