Eligible applicants can receive funding to support housing development
LANSING, Mich. (March 28, 2024) — Sen. Sue Shink (D-Northfield Twp.) is encouraging local nonprofits, developers, and local units of government to apply for the first round of funding for the MI Neighborhood program, administered by the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA). This program, which opens on April 1, 2024, offers $60 million in funding to support projects in three key areas: new units, rehabilitation, and public amenities.
“Funding opportunities such as this are transformative and highly impactful for communities,” said Sen. Shink. “I encourage all eligible applicants, especially within my district, to submit their applications and spread the word within their networks. As always, I’m thankful whenever government initiatives like the MI Neighborhood program can fulfill their intended purpose of removing barriers to success.”
Designed to align with the regional action plans and the Statewide Housing Plan, the MI Neighborhood program aims to streamline access to funding for eligible applicants, including non-profits, local governments, and certain for-profit developers. The program provides different levels of funding based on the number of grants or developer units implemented by the applicant, ranging from up to $200,000 for beginners to up to $2 million for advanced projects. The program duration requires full disbursement of funds within 24 months of the grant agreement’s effective date.
