DEXTER, Mich. (June 17, 2025) — On Monday, June 16, state Sen. Sue Shink (D-Northfield Twp.) joined six other state legislators for U.S. Congresswoman Debbie Dingell’s (D-MI) Washtenaw Community Town Hall. Held at Dexter High School, the event offered local residents an opportunity to connect directly with their elected officials, voice concerns, and hear updates on key legislative issues affecting Washtenaw County communities.
“This town hall is exactly what Democracy should look like — open, respectful, and community-driven,” said Sen. Shink. “We need to continue meeting face-to-face with our constituents to make sure their voices are heard in Lansing and Washington. When we bring people together — residents, local leaders, and elected officials — we build stronger, more informed solutions. I’m grateful to Congresswoman Dingell and my fellow lawmakers for joining in this conversation. And thank you to the law enforcement officials for being there and keeping us all safe.”
During the town hall, attendees raised concerns about affordable housing, infrastructure, mental health services, and the environment — issues that have a direct impact on the daily lives of Washtenaw County residents. The legislators discussed recent efforts at both the state and federal levels to secure funding and policy solutions that meet the needs of their communities.
The event, attended by approximately 300 residents, featured a panel-style discussion followed by a Q&A session with community members. Participating legislators included U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell; state Sens. Sue Shink and Jeff Irwin (D-Ann Arbor); and state Reps. Jason Morgan (D-Ann Arbor), Carrie Rheingans (D-Ann Arbor), Jennifer Conlin (D-Ann Arbor), Jimmie Wilson, Jr. (D-Ypsilanti), and Morgan Foreman (D-Pittsfield Twp.), each of whom shared resources and updates on legislation impacting their districts and the state.
