Today I signed my sixth balanced, fiscally responsible budget. And no surprises here: it doesn't raise taxes by a dime.
This budget continues to deliver for Michiganders on the kitchen table issues. Here’s how:
💵 Delivers tax relief to hardworking Michiganders
💵 Continues to roll back the retirement tax, saving seniors an average of $1,000 a year
💵 Puts money back in the pockets of over 650,000 families with the quintupled Working Families Tax Credit
Since I took office, we've invested over $1.5 billion to protect public safety. But what’s the impact of these investments? Here in Detroit, we’re starting to see it. Better pay and staffing. Initiatives to engage directly with communities. Historically low levels of violence.
This budget helps local governments hire, train, and retain more public safety workers. It upgrades emergency communications so we can better respond to calls, and funds community violence prevention to tackle the root causes of crime.
We’re also investing in economic security. We need to build new factories, create jobs, and bring supply chains home. Let’s keep supporting innovation as we compete for new projects – and we’re going to keep winning them.
Michiganders know how to roll up our sleeves and get things done. We have more people working construction now than any point in the last 22 years. With our partners in the federal government, we’re investing BILLIONS in our infrastructure.
Michigan manufacturing is a powerhouse and we’re using our skills to build the future. Reopening the Palisades Nuclear Plant will power hundreds of thousands of homes, support good-paying jobs, and help us meet clean energy goals.
Let’s build, baby, build – we’re working to reduce Michigan’s housing shortage and lower costs, so every Michigander has a safe, affordable place to call home.
We’re helping Michiganders stay happy and healthy, expanding access so everyone can get the care they need. We’re creating new behavioral health clinics, zeroing out premiums for MIChild, continuing Healthy Moms Healthy Babies, and more.
I’m grateful to my partners in the legislature for delivering a balanced, pragmatic budget that deals with the kitchen-table issues. ... See MoreSee Less
