On heels of Speaker Chatfield allegations, FBI investigates former Michigan House Speaker Rick Johnson for alleged bribes
LANSING, Mich. (Feb. 3, 2023) — Today, Senate Majority Floor Leader and Senate Oversight Committee Chair Sam Singh (D-East Lansing) has issued the following statement regarding the investigation into former Michigan House Speaker Rick Johnson for allegedly receiving bribes in exchange for awarding medical marijuana licenses:
“The news surrounding former Republican Speaker Rick Johnson is alarming and deeply troubling. Elected officials and leadership should be held to higher standards. These reports continue to display a pattern of unethical behavior from within the Republican Caucus that continues to erode the public’s trust in their government officials. No one is above the law, and my legislative colleagues and I will be following the investigation closely and determining what additional actions might be needed from the Senate Oversight Committee and the legislature as a whole to ensure this cannot happen again.”
