Dear Neighbor,
Every Michigander deserves access to opportunity — strong schools, affordable health care, safe communities, and an economy that supports working families. As the cost of living continues to rise, it’s more important than ever that your elected officials stay focused on investments that make life easier and deliver opportunity for hardworking Michiganders — especially right here in Ingham County.
As the Senate Appropriations Chair, the lead budget negotiator for the Senate, I’m committed to crafting a state budget that reflects these priorities:
Whether I’m working on the state budget or on legislation to address real challenges facing our communities, I’m committed to serving you and uplifting the issues that matter most to the people of our state.
As always, thank you for the opportunity to represent you. If you have any questions, want to comment on pending legislation, or need help resolving issues with state government, please do not hesitate to contact my office.
In service,
Building a Brighter Future for Ingham County
As your state Senator, I’ve focused on creating budgets that benefit everyday people and build new opportunities across the state. In my role as Senate Appropriations Chair, I’ve secured significant investments that are already making a difference in our own backyard. Here are just a few from previous budgets I’m excited to share:
Opening the Door to Homeownership
I secured over $58 million for high-quality affordable housing in Mid-Michigan. This funding will support down payment assistance and foreclosure prevention — helping more families buy a home, stay in their home, and build a future right here in our community.
Keeping Our Communities and Teens Safe
To provide teens with the guidance, counseling, and resources they need to get back on the right path, I delivered $12.5 million for the Ingham Juvenile Justice Facility. This funding will make sure our youth receive the care and support they need, while helping them grow, build skills, and move toward a brighter future.
Modernizing City Services
After decades of effort — and the $40 million I fought for — Lansing is getting a new city hall. This modern space will better serve residents as a one-stop shop for city services and social supports, ensuring more of your tax dollars go toward essential services rather than maintaining an outdated building.
Investing in Parks and Recreation for All to Enjoy
I was proud to secure $1.7 million to help cover the remaining costs of building an outdoor performance venue in Old Town’s Burchard Park with a permanent stage and seating. This venue will draw more visitors to our region, support local businesses, and give our community a welcoming space to connect, relax, and enjoy the outdoors together. I also secured $7.2 million for the Moores Park Pool, estimated to be open by summer 2026 by the City of Lansing.
