Dear Friend,

Thanks to those of you who stood with us to combat the horrific budget cuts made by Speaker Matt Hall and Michigan House Republicans back in December. More specifically, the $645 million in bipartisan, already agreed upon funding that was ripped away from Michigan kids, families, small businesses, and more.

Before the end of the year, I submitted a letter to Attorney General Dana Nessel requesting that she issue an opinion on the legality of the House Republicans’ actions. Today, AG Nessel, the state’s top attorney and legal expert, has officially issued an opinion stating what we already knew: a law allowing one committee of one legislative chamber to tamper with previously promised, approved, and enacted funding is unconstitutional.

Now that Republicans’ political games have been exposed as dangerous political theater, these crucial funds — and the support they provide for people, non-profits, and communities around the state — can be restored, including money right here in our district for:

  • Small Talk Children’s Advocacy Center;
  • Potter Park Zoo;
  • Lansing and Holt schools’ infrastructure;
  • LMTS Community Center;
  • Ingham County Land Bank;
  • And for so many more programs and organizations.

If you have further questions or concerns surrounding what is going on in Lansing, please reach out to my office by emailing SenSAnthony@senate.michigan.gov or by calling (517) 373-6960.  My team and I are here to help.

In Service,
