LANSING, Mich. (Jan. 15, 2025) — Today, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer delivered a keynote address at the Detroit Auto Show outlining the challenges facing Michigan’s economy and the actions needed to keep the state competitive in 2026. Among her proposals was expanding the Michigan Reconnect Program to every Michigander age 21 and older. Sen. Sarah Anthony, sponsor of Senate Bills 232 and 233, which would expand Michigan Reconnect, released the following statement in response:
“All eyes are on Michigan’s economy today, and expanding the reach of the Reconnect program is a guaranteed way to keep our state competitive on the global stage. I’m proud to have a partner committed to building up and realigning our workforce because there’s nothing more impressive about our state than the people who call it home.”
Senate Bills 232 and 233 passed the Senate with bipartisan support and are currently awaiting action in the House.
