Horizon Elementary students listen to great story, get essentials for oral health
LANSING, Mich. (March 23, 2026) —Today, State Sen. Sarah Anthony (D-Lansing) joined Delta Dental of Michigan to celebrate the joy of reading at Horizon Elementary School as part of March is Reading Month.
“One of my favorite parts of March is Reading Month is getting to spend quality time with the bright students right here in Mid-Michigan, and watching their eyes and imaginations light up when we read together,” said Sen. Anthony. “We should always stay committed to encouraging a love of reading in young students because reading sparks curiosity, builds vocabulary and promotes critical thinking that can help children succeed in the classroom and beyond.”
Sen. Anthony read to 77 students across all three third-grade classes. In partnership with the event, Delta Dental provided tote bags to students that included books, toothbrushes, and other dental products.
“Delta Dental is thrilled to support schools and students in the communities that we serve,” said Jordyn Imhoff, senior communications and public relations officer for Delta Dental of Michigan. “We appreciate the opportunity to join Sen. Anthony during March is Reading Month and share the magic of books with students. Reading and good oral health are important to a child’s success, and we are grateful for the chance to bring the two together today.”
“We’re thankful to Sen. Anthony and Delta Dental for taking time to celebrate March is Reading Month with our students at Horizon Elementary,” said Horizon Elementary Principal Kindra Padgett. “Having community leaders spend time and enjoy a book with our students really inspires them to make reading a lifelong positive habit.”
Delta Dental has a long history of supporting Michigan schools and promoting child wellness and health through educational and oral health materials. Through the SEAL! Michigan program, Delta Dental partners with the Michigan Dept. of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) to provide dental screenings, sealants and fluoride, among other items, to students. Delta Dental also awards community mini-grants to organizations supporting children’s oral health.
“Holt Public Schools is committed to providing our students with a worldclass education to prepare them for success long into the future,” said Dr. David Hornak, superintendent of Holt Public Schools. “We appreciate Sen. Anthony and Delta Dental for visiting and bringing the joy of reading to our students, promoting good health and wellbeing.”
