LANSING, Mich. (Feb. 14, 2023) — Today, Sen. Sarah Anthony (D-Lansing) released the following statement on the mass shooting at Michigan State University last night:
“Mid-Michigan has experienced a tragedy, and we are mourning.
“Michigan State University reflects the best and brightest students, faculty, and staff Mid-Michigan has to offer. When we talk about ‘Spartans Will’—the will to create a positive impact and overcome adversity—it rings true because of the excellence and determination of the Spartan Community.
“But last night, our community was attacked. Today, we are taking time to grieve and console our loved ones, but our will is not broken.
“I want to thank the MSU Department of Police and Public Safety, first responders, and all local, state, and federal partners involved in responding to this shooting. Their quick and decisive actions saved countless lives.
“While we do not know the motive of this attack, we know that we should not and cannot continue to accept acts like this as normal in our state. I have been in contact with law enforcement, local leaders, and community members to ensure that they get the help they need in the wake of this shooting.
“My thoughts are with the victims, their families, and the Spartan Community today. I am praying for a swift recovery for those who are currently in the hospital.”
