The Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) was introduced in 1993 by former U.S. Rep. William Ford (D-Taylor) and quickly signed by former President Bill Clinton as a means of recognizing the need for work-family balance. Erika Geiss (D-Taylor), who is working with her colleagues in the Progressive Women’s Caucus to implement state legislation addressing those shortcomings of FMLA.
