We are officially two steps closer to getting the Eastern Washtenaw Community and Recreation Center project to the finish line!

When I ran for office in 2022, I campaigned on a promise that I would fight hard for residents in my district to have more opportunities close to home. Within the first 6 months of my term, I helped secure a $15 million dollar appropriation in the state budget to address funding gaps to build the structure. In addition to securing funding, I've had the privilege to work alongside community members throughout District 6 to bring the vision to life.

The future home of the center will be located at the former Cheney school site and is in part of the lowest opportunity zone in our county. This project allows Washtenaw County an opportunity to appropriately invest in the 48197/48198 and close the opportunity gap. This center will save lives.

Thank you to our County Administrator Greg Dill, my colleagues on the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell, State Senator Jeff Irwin, State Representative Jimmie Wilson Jr., Superior Township Clerk Lynette Findley, Pastor Harold Wimberley, the Ypsilanti Community Schools Board of Trustees, Superintendent Zachary Ross, and many more members of the community for continuing to move this project forward.

I am eager to walk through the doors of the center someday soon!

We had a great tour with Food Gatherers and Packard Clinic on Friday. Jimmie Wilson Jr. and I toured two sites including a tour of the Charlotte Tillerson Food Pantry by Ms Tillerson herself.

I'm so excited to see how the big increases in last year's budget for food, and especially for the Michigan Agricultural Surplus System, are helping local food banks.

It matters who are elected officials are. Thank you, Jimmie and Jeff! (And always Charlotte Tillerson who is a Washtenaw County jewel!)

UP here in the U.P., I've (Shady Grove Farm U.P.) partnered with the U.P. Fresh Food Access Program through UPCAP, and they've been buying a lot of my organic (soy/corn free) eggs to supply food pantries. It will end up being hundreds of dozens when all said and done. Happy to see our communities making local, nutrient dense foods accessible to ALL!

Dana Nessel and Governor Gretchen Whitmer both approve of the risk-free bill to repair the Open Meetings Act. Whitmer even amended the "weakened" version the corrupt Graham Filler forced Jim Runestad to write. It is a shame the Democrat Majority ended up being controlled by the exact same Lobbyists that controlled the Republican "Leaders" and most of the Republican "Committee Chairs" for FOUR DECADES. Senator Winnie Brinks, Rep. Joe Tate, and Stephanie Chang are a disgrace to the people of Michigan! Joe Tate cares more about "Sports" than "Transparency." Winnie Brinks talks about events called "Drinks with Brinks" more than improving "Transparency." And Stephanie Chang is sponsoring a bill to make it so Michigan voters are ignored in a way that gives the Electoral Votes of Michigan to the winner of the "National Popular Vote" rather than the winner of the Michigan Election. I've been waiting since January of 2023 for email responses from those Democrats. And I've learned the reason I got no response is because the "Lobbyists" of the Michigan Townships Association and Michigan Municipal League are controlling those elected officials. Winnie Brinks even got an award from the MML! ... C'mon, Winnie! ... At least do things the ole' fashioned way by "trying" to hide the fact that you are corrupt and controlled by Lobbyists! Don't just admit it publicly by accepting an Award!

A common scam is voting for an elected official who does not support the improvement of Sunshine Laws in Michigan. That is why Michigan has the #50 Worst-Ranked Open Meetings Act, #50 Worst-Ranked Freedom of Information Act, and #50 Worst-Ranked Transparency in the Nation.
