First Six Priority Bills
Sen. Klinefelt is proud to have introduced Senate Bill (SB) 6, along with House Bill 4007, sponsored by Rep. Brenda Carter (D-Pontiac), to restore the state’s prevailing wage law. Sen. Klinefelt is also the proud co-sponsor of the other five priority bills introduced by the Senate and House Democratic majorities on the first day of the legislative session:
- SB 1 and HB 4001, legislation sponsored by Rep. Angela Witwer (D-Delta Twp.) and Sen. Kevin Hertel (D-St. Clair Shores) to repeal the retirement tax on Michigan seniors. SB 1 is a four-year phase-down of the tax on retirement income;
- SB 2 and HB 4006, legislation sponsored by Rep. Laurie Pohutsky (D-Livonia) and Sen. Erika Geiss (D-Taylor) to repeal Michigan’s 1931 statute that criminalizes abortion care;
- SB 3 and HB 4002, legislation sponsored by Rep. Nate Shannon (D-Sterling Heights) and Sen. Kristen McDonald Rivet (D-Bay City) to enable workers to keep more of their hard-earned dollars through an increased Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC);
- SB 4 and HB 4003, Legislation sponsored by Rep. Jason Hoskins (D-Southfield) and Sen. Jeremy Moss (D-Southfield) to expand Michigan’s Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act to include anti-discrimination protections for sexual and gender identity;
- SB 5 and HB 4005, Legislation sponsored by Rep. Regina Weiss (D-Oak Park) and Sen. Darrin Camilleri (D-Trenton) to restore workers’ rights by repealing the so-called “Right-to-Work” policy.
