Sen Klinefelt year in review

Dear Neighbor,

As your voice in the state Capitol, I am committed to advancing good government policies that reflect the values and priorities of our community. Throughout this year, your input has been essential in shaping legislation and informing budget negotiations as my colleagues and I work to deliver results that set Michigan families up for success. As always, thank you for the opportunity to represent you. I look forward to receiving your input to help address everyday problems. If you have any questions, want to comment on pending legislation, or resolve any issues in state government, please do not hesitate to contact my office.

Sincerely,

Senator Klinefelt signature

STRENGTHENING PROTECTIONS AGAINST ABUSE FOR SENIORS AND VULNERABLE ADULTS

Elder abuse and exploitation are serious and growing concerns for Michigan seniors. To protect older and vulnerable Michiganders from these threats, I joined my colleagues to introduce Senate Bills 922-925, which would enhance protections by:

  • Creating an elder and vulnerable adult personal protection order (PPO).
  • Increasing the amount of time prosecutors have to recover property in embezzlement cases where perpetrators have taken advantage of vulnerable adults.
  • Extending legal protections beyond a vulnerable adult’s death so that offenders who continue their schemes against a deceased victim face the same penalties as if the exploitation had occurred during the vulnerable adult’s lifetime.
  • Taking a holistic approach to preventing, intervening, investigating, and prosecuting abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation of older and vulnerable adults through the convening of local multidisciplinary teams.

INVESTMENTS IN OUR COMMUNITY

  • $8 million for the 38th District Court to construct a new courthouse and police station.
  • $6.6 million for the Roseville pump station and local roadway rehabilitation.
  • $4 million for road repairs in the Fraser Industrial Park.
  • $3 million for Macomb Township to improve the safety of the intersection at 21 Mile Road and Heydenreich Road.
  • $3 million for the reconstruction of 10 Mile Road in Eastpointe to improve road safety for motorists.
  • $700,000 for the Clintondale Community School District to bolster school security, ensuring a safe learning environment for all students.

From coffee hours and town halls to city council meetings and ribbon cuttings, these connections directly shape the legislation my team and I work on in Lansing. As we enter 2025, I invite you to check out our website to see what upcoming events we have on the calendar — I’d love to see you at one!
