Dear Neighbor,
This is a very busy time in the legislature as we wrap up business for the year, but I wanted to take a moment to let you know some of the things we’re up to.
As always, I appreciate your feedback, so please feel free to reach out to my office. You can contact me by sending an email to SenVKlinefelt@senate.michigan.gov or calling 517-373-7670.

Adding Civil Celebrant to the Marriage Statute
Getting married and would like someone significant in your life to conduct the ceremony? Senate Bills 1044 and 1045 do just that. Whether you want a local elected official, a member of the clergy, or just a close personal friend, these bills will allow you to make the choice that best suits your special occasion.
Senate Bills 1044 and 1045 were voted out of the Senate this week with bipartisan support and now move to the Michigan House for further consideration.
Passing the Momnibus
Senate Bills 818–822, otherwise known as the Momnibus, have passed the Senate this week. These bills will allow for resident’s birth plans to be completely respected, create parity between having a hospital birth and non-hospital birth, and collect data that will be published to make further improvements in individual birth experiences, among other things.
Standing With Our Firefighters
This week, I introduced Senate Bill 1167, which would allow firefighters to bring their concerns on staffing levels to the negotiation table. I have heard the concerns of our firefighters and first responders, and I think we should respect their right to have this conversation during their contract negotiations.
Senate Bill 1167 was taken up for testimony and voted out of the Senate Committe on Labor on Thursday. More information on the bill can be found here.
