Funding will be transformational for the area, helping residents access local government and services
MACOMB TOWNSHIP, Mich. (July 12, 2023) — Tonight, Sen. Veronica Klinefelt (D-Eastpointe) attended the Macomb Township Board of Trustees meeting to announce funding she secured in the Michigan Fiscal Year 2024 Budget for a long-awaited local road improvement project to Broughton Road.
As Chair of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation and a vocal advocate for her district and constituents, Sen. Klinefelt had a pivotal role in securing this funding. This investment is a crucial contribution to the maintenance and growth of the area, ensuring residents have easier access to local government and services.
“As a 30-year resident of Macomb County and a former county commissioner, I am committed to being a strong partner for the residents, communities and governments of District 11 in the State Senate,” said Sen. Klinefelt. “When local officials and concerned constituents reached out to discuss the pressing needs of Macomb Township, I was proud to work with my colleagues in the Michigan Legislature to fight for and secure the funding necessary to make these much-needed investments in our neighborhoods.”
Broughton Road, where the Macomb Township Hall is located, is set to receive $5 million for the project. Currently, the hall is inaccessible from the north, and community members must take an inconvenient route to visit the Township Hall. This funding will bring government back to the people, giving residents increased access to their local municipal building and the services it provides.
“For years, Macomb Township taxpayers sent money to Lansing only to have it spent elsewhere,” said Macomb Township Treasurer Leon Drolet. “Senator Klinefelt has turned that around by making sure support for roads and infrastructure is invested in our Township, helping Macomb Township citizens.”
