Dear Friend,
Who wants drama? When it comes to senior services and what’s going on in government, most of us want reliability. While chaos continues to come from Washington as the Trump administration works to cut crucial programs like Medicaid and Meals on Wheels, and rumors of slowing social security benefits, I’m doing everything in my power at the state level to push back and protect access to the benefits and services you’ve worked and paid for through a lifetime.
This newsletter will provide you with helpful resources that you may need, in addition to information about important legislation we’ve recently advanced in the Legislature.
If you ever need assistance navigating state government or would like to share feedback or suggestions, you can contact my office via email or by phone. Here’s how:

Lowering Costs for Seniors
The burden of rising costs of living falls hard on seniors. That’s why I’ve been focused on lowering costs in all aspects of everyday life for Michigan seniors by:
- Repealing the unfair retirement tax, saving nearly 500,000 seniors $1,000 every year.
- Establishing a Prescription Drug Affordability Board to rein in the rising cost of medications.
- Investing in affordable housing projects for veterans and seniors.
- Enhancing support for food assistance programs, like SNAP and Double-Up Food Bucks.
Fighting Abuse & Exploitation
To reduce the growing incidence of elder abuse and exploitation, I recently voted to pass legislation that would better prevent, detect, and prosecute all forms of elder abuse by:
- Enhancing protections for vulnerable adults.
- Enhancing protections for vulnerable adults.
- Increasing support services for vulnerable adults.
Meals on Wheels
We deserve every opportunity to age safely at home. Sometimes that means having meals delivered. If you, or a senior you know, cannot cook for yourself or are struggling to pay for food, Meals on Wheels can help. Below are some local resources that can help you.
