LANSING, Mich. (May 15, 2026) — Senate Appropriations Chair Sarah Anthony (D-Lansing) has issued the following statement regarding the Consensus Revenue Estimating Conference (CREC) that took place today:

“The numbers presented today reflect what we’ve long been feeling and seeing across our state: Trump’s economy is stunting the growth of our economy and cutting off opportunities for too many Michiganders. Consumer spending is down, and job growth has slowed. While we can’t reverse the reckless decisions coming at the federal level, we do have the power and tools here in Michigan to offer people and communities across our state the stability and certainty they deserve. That means coming together across party lines to quickly pass a state budget that protects the social services Michiganders deserve, provides people with some much-needed financial relief, and ensures a sustainable and healthy financial outlook for our state down the road.”

CREC is typically held twice a year, in January and May, with the January CREC starting the annual budget process for the state of Michigan. The revenue forecast adopted in the January conference is the starting point for the Governor’s executive budget, while the May conference provides an update to the forecast prior to the final budget enactment. CREC is led by the Director of the House Fiscal Agency, the Director of the Senate Fiscal Agency, and either the State Treasurer or the State Budget Director.
