LANSING, Mich. (June 2, 2026) — Today, Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks (D-Grand Rapids) appointed Sen. Chedrick Greene (D-Saginaw) to the following Senate committees: Veterans and Emergency Services; Labor; Regulatory Affairs; and Transportation and Infrastructure. During the committee process, Sen. Greene will lend his expertise and firsthand perspective to shaping legislation related to these issue areas, hearing testimony from experts and impacted individuals, and moving bills to the full Senate for further consideration.
“As a veteran, a first-responder, and a proud union member, I know we have to have each other’s backs and look out for one another. In the state Senate, the people of the 35th District have put their trust in me to do that on an even bigger scale,” said Sen. Greene.
“With my new roles on the Senate Veterans and Emergency Services and Labor committees, I get to draw from my 30-year public service career to help make our state a better place for our servicemembers, emergency crews, and workers — and the families that depend on them. In my other posts, I will fight to protect consumers and cut burdensome red tape for small businesses and make sure we all have smoother, safer roads and bridges to drive on.”
Sen. Greene is a lifelong resident of Saginaw and has been a firefighter and Marine for three decades. He will hit the ground running in the state Senate, working to finalize a state budget that prioritizes increased public safety funding and free school meals, lower housing, grocery, and healthcare costs, and stand up for Michigan’s veterans.
“Sen. Greene has a compelling, decades-long resume as a Marine veteran, first responder, and union member,” said Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks (D-Grand Rapids). “It is my distinct honor to appoint him to these committees, where I know he will serve with fortitude and integrity. He has long stood in the corner of his neighbors in Saginaw, and I know he will continue to serve them — and all Michiganders — well in his new roles.”
